ABOUT US

CHAPTER PROFILE

The Austin Cen-Tex chapter of The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA), represents approximately 50 minorities in the fields of accounting, business, finance and information technology. Our objective is to address the professional needs of our members and to help build leaders that shape the future of the accounting and finance profession.

The motto of NABA, "Lifting As We Climb", is exemplified best in our mission, which addresses the professional needs of our members while developing and inspiring future leaders who will shape tomorrow's accounting and finance professions.

Quarterly chapter meetings are held fourth Saturdays at Huston Tillotson Univeristy in the A-L Conference Room at 900 Chicon Street from 10 am - 12:00 noon. Please see our Calendar for upcoming meeting dates and locations.

The Executive Board may exercise all powers consistent with the chapter Bylaws or with duly enacted resolutions of the membership of the Chapter, including but not limited to, the authority to prescribe policies and procedures for the Chapter and to enact resolutions biding upon the Chapter, not inconsistent with the National Bylaws.

In addition to assisting the chapter President in establishing, implementing, and achieving chapter goals as well as presiding over meetings of the Executive Board and general body during the Presiden'ts absence, the roles and responsibilities for each Chapter Officer are described below: 

President – act as Chief Executive Officer of the Chapter. To provide leadership, direction, and vision for the Chapter consistent with the mission of the Association. To exercise general executive authority over all business, financial, and administrative matters on behalf of the Chapter. To establish high-level goals for the Chapter and inspire a shared vision of NABA among the Executive Board and general body.To preside over meetings of the Executive Board and general body and serve as Chairperson of the Executive Board.To appoint persons to chair or co-chair all Standing Committees, Special Committees and Sub-Committees.To serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the Election Committee.To represent the Chapter among external stakeholders, e.g. corporate sponsors, student chapters, community service organizations, etc. To represent the Chapter at Regional and National meetings. To disseminate regional and national information to the Executive Board and general body. To proactively address the needs and concerns of the membership. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter Bylaws and CPPM.

Vice President for Membership - To preside over meetings of the Executive Board or general body during the President’s absence. To develop and foster relationships with paid members and friend of NABA. To periodically survey members (informally or formally) regarding membership concerns. To assist in the identification of members to chair subcommittees. To direct liaison between the Board of Directors and the following committees: Membership, Social. To maintain record of membership & provide monthly updates of membership status to the Board. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws.

Vice President for Corporate Solicitations - To participate in local chapter and national fundraising activities with corporate organizations in the Austin and central Texas area. To assist in the identification of seasoned NABA members to chair subcommittees. To direct liaison between the Executive Board and the following subcommittees: Corporate Fundraising Breakfast/Reception, Student Conference Funding, Local & National Corporate Funding, to develop and foster relationships with current and potential corporate partners, and to adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws and CPPM. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Vice President for Community Affairs - To identify opportunities for members to fulfill their civic responsibility. To assist in the identification of members to chair subcommittees and assist with their initiatives. To serve as direct liaison between the Executive Board and the following committees: Financial Education, newsletter, and Website. To perform other duties that may be assigned by the President of the Executive Board. To countersign with the Treasurer all vouchers, checks, etc. in the absence of the President. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Vice President for Professional Development - To seek opportunities to assist in the personal and professional growth of our membership. To assist in the identification of seasoned NABA members to chair subcommittees. To direct liaison between the Executive Board and the following committees: Seminars & Workshops, Division of Firms, Co-Sponsored Events, and Job Fairs. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Vice President for Student Affairs - To assist in the identification of members to chair subcommittees. To direct liaison between the Executive Board and the following subcommittees: Student Chapters, Scholarship and Awards Banquet, Student Conference and Mentorship. To maintain a working knowledge key student chapter members (student officers) and student chapter activities in an effort to periodically obtain board of director representation at student chapter events. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Vice President for Division of Firms - To direct liaison between DOF and the NABA Executive Board. To keep the NABA Board of Directors aware of DOF activities and opportunities for joint events. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Treasurer - To serve as Chief Financial Officer of the Chapter. To present at all general body meetings, or whenever required, a report of the Chapter’s financial condition showing receipts and disbursements, and outstanding accounts unpaid since the last report. To record timely deposits and payments in accordance with the chapter's expense reimbursement guidelines. To establish internal controls, provide stewardship over Chapter financial assets, and safeguard all bank account records, blank checks, cancelled checks, and invoices. To monitor and reconcile all bank account activity and compile monthly financial statements to present to the Executive Board for review and approval. To develop and monitor the fiscal operating budget for the Chapter. To satisfy all National financial reporting requirements and IRS tax reporting requirements by the established due dates. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Financial Officer - To assist the Treasurer in the active discharge of his/her duties, to fulfill the Treasurer’s role during the Treasurer’s absence. To collect and properly account for all monies received by the Chapter and promptly deposit funds into the Frost Bank checking and/or savings account held under the name of the “Austin Cen-Tex Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.” To succeed to the office of Treasurer upon appointment by the Executive Board to the Treasurer position. Pick up and distribute mail from Chapter Post Office Box. Prepare a log of checks received prior to distributing to the Treasurer. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws and CPPM. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.

Secretary - To record the minutes of Chapter meeting proceedings and Chapter business discussed at the Executive Board meetings and forward to the Executive Board within two (2) weeks. To present Chapter meeting minutes to the Executive Board for approval at each subsequent Executive Board meeting. To maintain a master file of all minutes of the Chapter meetings and Executive Board meetings for the fiscal year. To maintain chapter mailing lists (database includes names, address, phone numbers, companies, etc.) To monitor and track all Chapter activities that qualify for the Chapter Reporting and Evaluation Program as described in Article XII, Section 12.13. To prepare the Chapter’s Balanced Scorecard and Chapter’s Quarterly Report and submit to the National Office by the established deadlines. To maintain historical records of all Chapter activities via photographs, videos, and other media. To document and archive major Chapter accomplishments, awards, and recognition. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter Bylaws and CPPM. To assume the office of the President, if the position should become vacant.
           
Immediate Past President - To provide general guidance, training, and assistance to the current Chapter President. To serve as general advisor to the Executive Board. To assist on various committees as needed. To adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws and CPPM.
