COMMITTEES
The board of directors may from time to time, may designate standing and ad hoc committees for specific purposes. Each officer, after election, shall be assigned by the President to chair a committee (standing or ad hoc to implement the current year's operating plan) and be responsible for that committee's activities.
The duties of the Committee Chairs to prepare a fiscal operating plan and budget for their respective Standing Committee,to recruit members to serve on their respective Standing Committee, to attend all Executive Board meetings and general body meetings, and submit a report on committee activities to the President and Executive Board at least monthly, to call committee meetings regularly or as necessary, to appoint a vice-chair to their respective Standing Committee, if necessary, and to adhere to the provisions of the Chapter By-laws.
Standing Committees:
Chapter Development and Effectiveness - charged with recommending necessary policies and procedures and provide tools to strategically identify and increase resources (in-kind and financial) for the Association’s programs. Additionally, in conjunction with the Past President, Vice Presidents for Corporate Solicitations, Community Affairs, Professional Development, Division of Firms, Student Affairs, and Treasurer, develops the strategies required for the short and long-term resource needs of the Association. Any member of the Association may solicit a relationship on behalf of NABA; however, the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and President shall be informed in advance to collaborate on the delivery of services and program creation as appropriate.
The success in the area of resource development requires the full participation of this Committee and from the entire Board.

Community Affairs & Public Relations - charged with serving as a liaison between NABA and various community-based groups, Committee members help accomplish our community relations initiatives such as Financial Coaching and Tax Preparation through the Foundation Communities, Financial Education Workshops, year-long fundraising for the Annual Back to School Parade, and other community volunteer efforts. Also, the committee plans, creates and manages all chapter public announcements, quarterly Ledger newsletter, website development, and chapter marketing collateral for its programs and events. Individuals are needed who possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Participation involves interfacing with members and external media sources.

Professional Member Services - actively recruits, retains and reclaims members by encouraging their participation in chapter, regional, and national NABA activities and events. Also, the committee coordinates and plans events for membership enrichment, enjoyment and relaxation to help balance member’s time with all the work of accomplishing our Chapter’s mission. The Committee works in conjunction with other committees to assist with raising additional scholarship monies for deserving student members.

Student Member Services - acts as a liaison between the chapter’s professional and Student Chapters at area colleges and universities while serving as a foundation of support to the student chapters and assessing the need for establishing new student chapters. The committee is a major player in the Southwest Western Region Student Conference where corporations are invited to recruit minority students at a three-day conference. Also, a primary objective of the Student Member Services Committee is promoting the chapter’s Annual Scholarship and Awards event and the Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP) which increases the understanding of accounting and business career opportunities among high school students from underrepresented ethnic groups. Through ACAP, high school students receive educational enrichment experiences needed for college preparation and a career in accounting. The program is held during summers at the University of Texas at Austin.

Corporate Relations - responsible for maintaining the Chapter's relationship with the corporate and small business community by providing networking opportunities and correspondence with corporate partners, the committee coordinates the sponsorship of the ACAP Program, Annual Scholarship/Awards banquet, chapter participation in the National Convention, and Annual Sponsorship Breakfast, This year, we are expanding the existing program to new partners and are seeking volunteers to coordinate this effort.

Professional Development - charged with scheduling speakers for the chapter’s continuing professional education (CPE) program. The speakers provide technical sessions on current accounting topics, individual tax policy updates, personal career enhancement, small business issues, investments and other accounting and professional development related issues. Members who are certified as public accountants, management accountants, internal auditors, or fraud examiners can earn their required CPE credit hours, help other professional members to expand their knowledge base and provide a conduit for networking with other members and business and finance professionals.

Finance - charged with ensuring the long term financial stability, sustainability and self-sufficiency of the organization. At least the majority of the members must be from the executive board. Committee approves budget prior to submission of the board of directors. Develops and approves the organization’s investment strategy, banking arrangements and financial policies. Provides guidance to the organization in the development of its long term financial strategy. Conducts periodic review of financial statements and analyses of financial information and provide insight to the Board of Directors on emerging financial trends. Ongoing monitoring of investment results and making recommendations to the Board of Directors for reallocation of investment portfolio as warranted consistent with investment policy. Review/support due diligence on major initiatives that absorb financial resources that are not included in the budget before consideration by the Board of Directors.
